چکیده

Lupus erythematosus (LE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by functional alterations of T and B lymphocyte subsets. The cutaneous forms of lupus erythematosus comprise subacute cutaneous LE (SCLE) and discoid LE (DLE). Recent studies have shown that the activation process of lymphocytes in patients with systemic disease manifestations is disturbed. The aim of this study was to investigate the levels of CD4CD25 regulatory T cells and CD4CD69 cells in peripheral blood of patients with cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). Using flow cytometry to determine cell populations, we characterized CD4CD25 cells and CD4CD69 cells in patients with CLE (DLE – 5 patients, SCLE – 5 patients), SLE (n = 5), and healthy controls (n = 15). We compared CD4CD25 cells and CD4CD69 cells from the patients with CLE versus SLE and healthy controls. CD4CD25 cells was significantly increased in patients with CLE when compared to the patients with SLE (p < 0.05 ). While the percentage of CD4CD25 cells in CLE patients was similar to that in the control subjects. CD4CD69 cells was decreased in the patients with CLE and control subjects when compared to the patients with SLE (p < 0.05). Our results indicate that patients with systemic disease manifestations had lower levels of circulating CD4CD25 cells and higher levels of CD4CD69 cells than patients with cutaneous forms of lupus erythematosus.

Influence of 1 Alpha, 25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 on T Helper 17 Cells and Related Cytokines in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multisystem autoimmune disease. Emerging data suggests that T helper 17 (Th17) cells play a pathogenic role in SLE and the increased number of these cells correlates with disease activity. In recent years, 1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25VitD3) has been considered as an immunomodulatory factor. Objective: To investigate the effect of 1,25VitD3...

Sex Hormones and Peripheral White Blood Cell Subsets in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Patients

Background: Systemic Lupus Eyrythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease charac-terized by antibodies to nuclear antigens, particularly anti-dsDNA. Imbalance between production and destruction of immune cells causes cytopenia. Sex hormones have im-munomodulatory effects; estrogen increases the production of autoantibodies in SLE prone NZB/NZW mice. Objective: To investigate the relationship bet...

Expression Pattern of Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase (hTERT) Variants and Bcl-2 in Peripheral Lymphocytes of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Patients

Background & Objective: It is not clear whether activated lymphocytes of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are more proliferative or less apoptotic. We aimed to delineate potential differences between B and T cells of SLE patients compared to healthy controls regarding the telomerase activity and apoptosis status. Methods: In this cross-sec...

Functional and Developmental Analysis of CD4+CD25+ Regulatory T Cells under the Influence of Streptococcal M Protein in Rheumatic Heart Disease

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of streptococcal M protein in naturally-occurring CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells (nTregs) function and development in rheumatic heart disease in Iraqi patients. Streptococcus pyogenes was isolated for subsequent M protein extraction. Also, peripheral blood nTregs and CD4+ T cells were isolated by using Magnetic Cell Separation System. Tissue cul...

FoxP3+ Regulatory T Cells in Peripheral Blood of Patients with Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

Background: Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of death from malignancy in women. CD4 +CD25+FoxP3+ regulatory T (Treg) cells are a subset of T lymphocytes with great inhibitory impact on immune response. Objectives: To investigate the percentage of CD4 +CD25+FoxP3+ regulatory T cells in the peripheral blood of the Iranian patients with epithelial ovarian cancer compared to healthy women ...
